Rachel has had several positive experiences of working with a mentor – some technical and some not related to geology at all, helping her build her skills in leadership, management, and her personal development.
Having felt the impact of being a mentee, she’d like to give something back and become a mentor. Having lived different countries, Rachel has experience in building a network and creating new opportunities, deciding which career path to take and learning from her own mistakes.
Outside of work, her family and health are incredibly important. She has a young daughter and a husband (who has an intense job!) so carving out time for them and is important. She stays healthy with outdoor activities (walking, hiking, particularly skiing) when possible. She loves to cook and is currently experimenting with eating less meat. But trying to get a 6-year-old to eat more veg is proving quite a challenge in her house!
Two final interesting facts about Rachel:
1, She trained as a teacher and taught in Australia
2) She has a diploma in Gemstones and can identify over 150 different types – but most importantly, can spot a fake one, a lab grown one or a genuine one!
